Last night saw the closing party for the 2005 Tiree Wave Classic.
The evening kicked off with Julian Da Vall presenting the individual discipline and overall prizes in each category (with over 70 podium places that’s quite a lot of prizes to give out), before finally presenting the outright winner John Skye with the 2005 Tiree Wave Classic Triple Crown.
Receiving his award Skye boy thanked the Wave Classic team for putting on the best event of the year, and vowed to come back next year to defend his winning run.
With the formalities out of the way the crowd was treated to not only the two advertised bands but a special guest appearance by “JC and the one man band” (aka our esteemed photographer John Carter - as he was playing he couldn’t take any photos of this so if anyone has a decent shot of JC email it to me info@tireewaveclassic.com and I’ll put it on the site)
Following JC on stage were an excellent Ceilidh band. Playing traditional Scottish tunes they soon had a good mix of competitors, crew and Tiree folk twirling across the dance floor (some a little more gracefully than others).
Before the crowd could catch their breath Tiree’s own rock band The Defenders took the stage. Playing two sets of the best guitar rock tunes from the sixties to the noughties they had everyone rocking into the early hours.
As promised there are a few (well actually a lot) of sore heads this morning, but hopefully some good memories of a truly classic Wave Classic.
