The Pro Men’s competition kicked off the proceedings with a moderate South Easterly breeze providing ample power to tackle the challenging supercross course expertly set by the awesome event crew.
The Pro course started with a le Mans style sprint from the beach and included a compulsory forward loop before jumping the first sausage then a straight run to the next sausage. This was followed by a duck jybe over the next sausage and a very tight run to the finish.
The jumps were particularly tough; hard enough without the added swell that increased the jump from 1 to 8 metres in some cases.
This was a hard fought and very tough competition with many crashes and holed sails, but no serious accidents.
After three rounds in the Pro Men’s competition Chris Audsley won the second and third rounds to put him in first place pushing Greg Martin into second place and James Cox and Phil Horrocks in joint third place.
The juniors and youths also competed in three rounds today and both the women and the amateurs raced two rounds.

Bringing Supercross to the Wave Classic has proved to be a great success. The Pro Men demonstrated just how spectacular this event can be. The Amateurs, Ladies, Youths, Juniors and Masters didn’t appear at all daunted by large obstacles, the tricky wind and swell conditions and the fact that many of them hadn’t done Supercross competitively before and put in some very creditable performances.
Special thanks must go to Spot On Water for the use of their equipment (sausages) and their expertise in setting up the competition course.
