Extreme action around Tiree’s coastline – Event Village round-up

Still not much wind here today, but the sun is shining and there’s plenty going on. Here’s a quick report from Event Village co-ordinator Will Wright about yesterdays extreme coasteering and cliff jumping session an other Event Village fun:
Balevullin is situated at the North West of the island and is one of Tiree’s most popular beaches. Parked up next to the beach today is a blue van with “Hebridean Pursuits” splashed on the side. Our instructors today are Andy and Ben who have loads of experience in leading activities like this and know the Tiree coastline inside out. The activity; Cliff Jumping and Coasteering.
It’s a mix of rock scrambling, adventure swimming and jumping together with exploration of numerous caves and gullies. Hebridean Pursuits are a regular feature at the Wave Classic and their activities are always popular with adults and kids. This is an activity that is definitely not to be missed and is accessible to a wide range of ages and abilities.
Also at Balevullin today was Wild Diamond Surf School instructor Suds, who runs daily surfing lessons throughout the year. He is running Wave Classic surf lessons every day and can be booked through the Event Village HQ at the Lodge.
At Gott Bay the BloKarts were in full flow with a steady stream of people blasting around the flat sandy beach. If you don’t fancy donning a wetsuit this is a great alternative activity. Very easy to pick up and highly addictive. Photos courtesy of Hebridean Pursuits and Ecosse Digital Imaging

Team 15 Success

The Tiree Team 15 Junior Racing Event was a great success at Loch Bhasapol on Wednesday 14th.

17 rounds of racing were completed with the junior racers prior to finally announcing the winners of the event.

A big thank you to everyone who came along on the day and contributed in some shape or form. Additionally a special thanks to George Shillito and Chris Murray from Tushingham/Starboard who were kind enough to come along with demo equipment from their sponsors. The boys also got in the water and completed the final race of the day with the kids prior to teaching the children how to perform some pretty sporty freestyle moves!

Overall the day turned out to be a great success, even with the light winds that we had over the course of the day. This is an event which we hope to grow for next year to involve more young windsurfers in racing and give them the opportunity to interact with the top stars in the sport. Watch this space for 2010!
