Cal mac Coll Challenge

Competitors took there marks on the beach this morning for the first leg of the tri-sport Coll Challenge. Pegged as the ‘most remote adventure race in the UK’, the challenge includes running 2 miles along the stunning Crossapol beach in Tiree, windsurfing from Crossapol around the coast to Gott Bay and then over to the neighbouring island of Coll, and then charging around the half marathon route around the forest on the island of Coll.

Competitors included Pro fleet windsurfers John Hibbard, Timo Mullen and Scotlands own Alan Jackson, from East Kilbride. Alan came second in the runnning leg and first in the first leg of the windsurfing. We sit eagerly awaiting the final results…

Monday 13th - Beautiful sunshine but not enough wind!!!

Competition was postponed until 2pm, and then finally scheduled for a first possible start at Balephuil beach 2,30pm. Unfortunately, the after a frustrating wait, competition was called off at 4.30pm!

Some of the pro’s stayed on at the beach for the perfect surfing conditions including Head Judge, Duncan Coombes. He said “with such light winds, the waves are just not good enough but they are perfect for surfing!”

Competitors are looking forward to the Cal Mac Coll Challenge tomorrow, and trying out the new race disciplines including beach running and the mountain bike half marathon route on the neighbouring island of Coll. Fingers crossed for wind!!!
